The Cave has daycare!! We’ve been asked for this for quite some time and it is here. M/W/F 6pm, Tue/Thr 9am and Sat 10am we will have daycare at the facility. If your kids are too young for our classes, bring them in on a drop in basis so you can workout. Cost will be $5/child. We’re running this on a trial basis to see how well it works out. If you know of any moms or dads that have wanted to get started at The Cave, but couldn’t due to the little ones let them know.

So whenever we have a workout involving a shorter distance such as 50 meters, 50 feet, 20 feet, etc we are constantly asked “How long is that?”. So, we have made it really easy. The new hash marks outside our space now have ruler markings in both feet and meters. The inner numbers are feet, and the outer numbers are meters. Marked off at every 5 units this will give you everything you need to mark off your distances very easily. The ruler extends the entire length of our facility, so you’ve got 160 feet or 50 meters to work with. You’ll see some of the prep chalk markings in the photo, those will fade and it will be nice and clear.
Greetings from congress. This weekend a group of the gymnastics staff headed down to USAG Region 1 Congress. This weekend long event is a series of clinics on a wide variety of topics associated with gymnastics. Topics range from teaching mommy and me classes, to drills for elite level movements, to key business topics associated with running a gymnastics facility.
Congress sessions are taught by experts in the field. There is a wealth of knowledge available, and presenters are also available for questions and discussion. It is a tremendous opportunity for your coaches to learn new techniques and refine their knowledge of their craft. With the rapid development of the sport of gymnastics even our most experienced gymnastics coaches are able to pick up new drills and refine their knowledge of techniques. Our lead coaches will be distilling down the information from congress and bringing it back to the gym for the rest of the staff.
For me it is a great time to see people I have known for years in the gymnastics community, but really only see a couple times a year. This weekend reminds me how long I have been in the gymnastics community and how thankful I am for this great sport.
We’ve had a great time. Day 2 is over and we have one day left. It will be great to get back in the gym next week and work with all of our fantastic students.
The blog has been quieter recently. The Cave staff has been focused on the plans with the expansion and remodel. We are steadily adding new equipment and getting pieces of the facility set up. If you came in for CrossFit on Wednesday this week you got to use our new set of ropes. One of our old ropes got so well used it fell apart. We’ve added 4 more ropes in the CrossFit area and will be adding a couple more in the gymnastics area, one in the parkour area. Additionally we’re adding a cargo net to the parkour area which will be a lot of fun. Keep your eyes out for more changes to come.
So the fact that the CrossFit program is growing and people in the CrossFit program keep getting stronger has caused a few problems in classes. There’s not been enough plates to load the bars for everyone for certain workouts. Well, here you go. The stacks of plates are now bigger. Additionally we won’t be using the 10lb bumpers any more. There are now enough 5kg plates to go around. I’m sorry to say that we won’t be testing your decimal math skills as much any more. No more 4.54kg loads to add to your bar. Have fun with the new plates and please be gentle with the 5kg plates.
