Wish us luck in the Shoot tomorrow.

Friday, October 21st, 2011

So about a week ago on Thursday I get a call from this guy named Evan from Bodega studios.  Turns out he’s in charge of casting for a  wine commercial that features a few Parkour moves or at least some “cat-like” movements.  I tell the other parkour coaches on the CFM staff about it and Glenn helps me with pictures and I get some last minute headshots done.  A few of us went to audition last Friday for the principal part, which actually pays pretty well.  We enjoyed using what Andrey calls our “Parkour Vision” to find different moves on the small obstacles by the bay next to Pac Bell stadium.  That was the easy part.  The hard part was trying to look “suave” while pretending to swish fine wine in our wine glasses- errr.. water bottles.   It was definately fun, at least after we got over the nervousness.  ( Maybe I’m speaking for just myself, but I was nervous at first, anyways, until the cute parkour girl showed up to audition.  Then it was just plain fun. )  None of us got the principal part but Ryder and I were offered paid parts as extras.  Not that much, but pay is pay.  The principal part was offered to a fellow from L.A. who’s been involved in different parkour related movie projects.  Other big-name traceurs also applied and I’m not going to list them off, but naturally it made me think of our old friend Shane Daniels, who coached at CFM briefly before moving down to L.A. and finally landing a spot on Team Tempest and fullfilling his dream of becoming a professional stuntman and actor.  Ryder Darcy is also an aspiring actor and he plans on moving down to L.A. eventually to give it a shot, as does our ballet and tap dance teacher, Lindsey Herrera.  (I’m also encouraging Seraphina Schinner, our youngest parkour coach, to look into a stunt/acting career.  She is definately talented enough.)  Both Ryder and Lindsey have been on commercial and modeling shoots before and Ryder recently played a character who heroically gets killed off on a B-rated horror movie.  It’s a process to try to break into an acting career, unless your the child of a famous actor.  I’m happy to go tomorrow to participate, learn, make new friends, and watch the process.  Now I’m just nervous about my wardrobe being adequate for the shoot, which starts early tomorrow morning, so there’s now time for shopping.  Oh well, what I have will have to do.  Wish us luck.

In the meantime, here is a video that Tempest made when they were shooting the AT&T parkour commercial featuring some of our favorite traceurs, and of course, Shane:

Ninja Warrior- Style Course Videos @ CF Marin + PK Connections on Dec 12th, 2010

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Hey guys, here are some of the videos from last Sunday when we had our “Ninja Warrior- Style” Obstacle course at CFM co-hosted with Parkour Connections.  Not only did Shane come up for the weekend, but we also had Brian “No Sole” Orosco in the competition.  Here are his Stage 3 + Stage 2 winning runs:

Let’s not forget our own Andrey Pfenning who will be 21 in March and therefore eligible to compete in next season’s American Ninja Warrior!  Here’s his stage 3 performance.

Albert “Lethal Beef” shows us how to take care of Stage 2:

I had to throw in Benny’s Stage 2 run because I couldn’t stop chuckling about his post-run collapse on the asphault!   Welcome to CrossFit Marin, Benny!

A special thanks to Aero, Marissa, Albert, SF Parkour, all the kids, attendees and Spider Man for designing the courses and helping make the event as fun and as cool as it was!

Shane Daniels Demo Reel / Ninja Challenge Course at CrossFit Marin tomorrow

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

Hey guys,

So, as a reminder, you should all come and participate or at least watch the Ninja Challenge obstacle course tomorrow at CrossFit Marin.  It’s open to everybody (ages 5 and over, adults included) from 9am-12pm and the serious competition starts at 12pm, which requires pre-registration and everyone has to be here before noon.  As many of you know, Shane Daniels arrived on Friday night for the Holiday Party and coached the Saturday morning classes.  He will be helping to run you and the kids through the course on Sunday.  Aero, Marissa, many of the SFParkour crew will be co-organizing and running the event.  Parkour Connections is in the house!

Here is Shane’s Demo Reel for those of you who haven’t seen it yet:

(Bubbles?  yeah… bubbles!)

Ok,… I’m out.  See you all tomorrow.  Don’t forget it’s all about having fun!

American Ninja Warrior Premier airs tonight on G-4 at 5pm Pacific Standard Time

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

What’s up, crew?  So as you all know by now, the big event this week is the Ninja Obstacle Course Challenge at CrossFit Marin on Sunday from 9-12am for open kids/adults and 12-2pm for the registered competitors at CrossFit Marin.  Why?  Because tonight is the premier of G-4’s American Ninja Warrior Season 2, of course!.  The competition took place back in August at Venice Beach and although we had Roger, Tomio, Jill, and myself qualify for the try-out run, only I was able to go due to scheduling conflicts for our other athletes.  As many of you know, I did well, but didn’t quite make it into the top 30 for the 2nd day’s competition (due to an injury, mainly), but as an alternate for the 2nd day, I got to hang out on the set waiting to see if someone wasn’t going to be able to compete so I could sub in for them.  Obviously, I would have completely ignored my knee injury and rocked the course had I gotten another shot!  Here’s another video of the talented Ninjas hanging out waiting for the competition to start and a little glance at what it was like to be on the set.

Our former parkour coach, Shane Daniels, competed as well. He went to Japan as a finalist after season one.  Can you spot him on this clip from last year’s “Breaking down the Course”?

Here are some of the best falls from last year’s show:

And some more…

Here’s the infamous warped wall:

Here’s Shane rocking the course last year:

But my personal favorite is definately this one…

Be sure to tune in this evening or record it on your TIVO so you can watch it later and bring your kids in to Sunday’s Obstacle course challenge and see if you’ve got the skills and mental fortitude to be CrossFit Marin’s next “American Ninja-CrossFit Warrior”!

Some of you remember Shane Daniels. He was an interim parkour coach for us a short while ago. If you were wondering what he’s been up to. He’s headed down to tinsel town to get some work on screen. Additionally he qualified to American Ninja Warrior, traveled to Japan and competed. No spoilers here. Catch the runs on G4, or do some searches on YouTube to find him.

We wish Shane and his family the best and hope he’s wickedly successful in all his endeavors.
