Presenter - Laurel Weaver, MS, RD Registered Dietitian I'm Laurel, a registered pediatric dietitian with a deep belief that food should be one of life's great pleasures — not a source of stress. My path to dietetics wasn't linear. I originally pursued creative writing before discovering, through a sports nutrition course, that nutrition was the career I actually wanted. I went on to earn my undergraduate degree in nutrition from UC Davis and a master's in clinical nutrition from UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where I completed over 1,200 hours of supervised clinical practice to earn my license. Having worked with children throughout my life — through babysitting, lifeguarding, and two years of nannying in the Netherlands — I chose to specialize in pediatric nutrition so I could combine my love of working with kids and my passion for food. I focus on children specifically because early intervention allows families to build a healthy foundation from the start, rather than repair a difficult relationship with food later in life. My Approach My philosophy centers on removing pressure from the equation. Parents are rarely short on motivation — they're short on strategy. Because children take cues directly from their parents, I work with the whole family, not just the child, to shift household dynamics around food. My goal is to help transform mealtimes from a source of conflict into something calm, curious, and even enjoyable. I approach my work through genuine conversation about food preferences and practical, everyday solutions. Whether you're reading this or working with me directly, my aim is the same: to make healthy eating feel accessible, sustainable, and doable — starting today.
