NEW! Gymnastics and Parkour Classes

, ,

Hi there Cave Community!

On September 15th, Marin County moved into Tier 2 per the State of California’s Color-coded COVID Risk Status. This means a couple things:

  • We have been approved for 10% capacity indoors.
  • All students and staff must be masked at all times while indoors.
  • All students and staff must be properly socially distanced while indoors and outdoors.
  • All equipment will be cleaned between each individual student’s use by the coach. In addition to this, we fog our entire facility with a safe cleaning solution to ensure all surfaces are sanitized after each day’s activities.
  • The majority of our classes will be hybrid, in that they’ll be both outdoors part of the time and indoors another part.

All Classes Open

Friday, September 18 Update

We are relieved that the air quality in our area has remained good. We will continue to monitor and update here if anything changes.

Wednesday, September 16 Update

Air quality in the county has improved remarkably. We hope this holds up. We will be operating both indoors and outdoors over the next several days as we continue to work with the county’s plan for safe reopening of businesses. We had a great time in the facility Tuesday, and look forward to continuing to provide opportunities to our students. Thank you all for all of your understanding during all that we have been through this year.

Tuesday, September 15 Update

This is the most exciting update we have had in quite some time. While air quality continues to be poor, it is official that we are allowed to operate indoors starting September 15! We are allowed to operate at 10% capacity which allows us to implement the plans that we put together in the early days of the shelter in place. We will be communicating early Tuesday to specific classes and groups what is happening with their classes.

If air quality improves sufficiently we will operate some classes outdoors to allow for more capacity, and to keep students as distanced as feasible. Thank you all so much for walking through all of this with us. This is a huge step forward.

Monday, September 14 Update

Air quality today has remained pretty static. It is still not in a range where outdoor athletic activity is advisable. Afternoon classes will be on zoom again. See the schedule below. We will be continually updating this page.

Sunday, September 13 Update

Air quality has only improved marginally. Unfortunately this means we are unable to run our in-person classes. We will continue to run our program via zoom.

Saturday, September 12 Update

Unfortunately it is clear that air quality will not improve sufficiently by tomorrow for us to run classes. We are very sorry that we are not able to run our classes in person. Saturday classes will be cancelled. We hope you and your family are fairing well in the smoke, and that you have not been directly impacted by the fires. We need to continue to pull together as a community and do all we can to support each other.

Friday, September 11 Update

Due to the terrible air quality. Friday 6:15am, 7:15am, 9am, and 10am S&C classes will be cancelled.

Our indoor half-day camp will operate as it is indoors, and serviced by our HVAC system, which runs full facility air through HEPA filters.

All afternoon classes will also be cancelled. As with previous days we are moving to Zoom. Please follow the button below for the updated list.

Thursday, September 10 Update

Air quality this morning at the facility is poor. All afternoon classes are cancelled. Our live online classes will be posted on our Live Classes main page in the Members Area. Note that today’s classes will be loaded in the general tab. You do not need to drill down to your discipline for today’s classes.

Wednesday, September 9 Update

As we have monitored the situation down at the facility, we have had to make the decision to close our afternoon classes today. Unfortunately the amount of ash is significant, and though small particulates are still in an acceptable range, the estimates is that it will get worse throughout the day. We are preparing a Zoom schedule for all afternoon classes. These classes will be listed on our Live Classes main page in the Members Area. Click the button below to head over to the Main Live Classes page.

Tuesday, September 8 Update

Air quality at the facility is in the moderate category. We are aware of how the air looks, and are closely monitoring the status. We are currently planning on running classes. Keep apprised here for any changes.

Sunday, September 6 Update

Air quality today progressed into unhealthy categories. We have had to make the unfortunate decision to close afternoon classes.

Thursday, September 3 Update

Air quality this morning was very good, but it has worsened through the day. We are still below our threshold for closing classes, but we are monitoring closely and will get out notices if this changes.

Wednesday, September 2 Update

Air quality is good, and continues to improve. We hope this will all continue. Thank you to all of our Cave families for your patience and support while we work through the constant changes and difficulties.

Monday, August 31 Update

Air quality is moderate at the facility. Currently all classes are scheduled as normal. Air quality is improving as the day goes on, but we will continue to monitor and update.

Sunday, August 30 Update

Air quality at the facility is good, but surrounding areas are moderate. We are monitoring today, but planning on operating classes.

Thursday, August 27 Update

Air quality continues to be good at the facility. Forecasts indicate it should remain this way throughout the day.

Wednesday, August 26 Update

Air quality today is good. We will continue to monitor, but are hopeful it will remain that way. At this time all scheduled classes will occur.

Tuesday, August 25 Update

There was a spike in poor air quality this morning at 6 am, but air quality is improving as the morning continues. We are monitoring closely. At this time we are planning on all classes occurring.

Given that yesterday cleared up drastically in the afternoon, we are going to keep monitoring and not make any decisions until closer to class time. We appreciate your patience.

You may have received our Monday email late. Unfortunately we ran into some technical issues with GMail and Mailchimp yesterday on top of the air quality issues. We apologize for any confusion that may have caused.

Monday, August 24 Update

Air quality in the Corte Madera area has worsened quickly today, Monday, August 24. We are canceling all outdoor afternoon activities. Credits will be issued for all students enrolled in classes and registered for camps. We apologize for this inconvenience and will keep this page updated with class and camp status.
As air quality continues to be significantly better in the early morning we are still planning on Tuesday, Aug 25, 5:15 am, and 6:15 am Strength and Conditioning classes continuing as scheduled.
Note that Live Online Classes are still continuing as scheduled.

Sunday, August 23 Update

Dear Cave families,
We hope everyone is staying safe and out of the smoke. Our thoughts are with families affected by the fires across California.
The Cave staff has been closely monitoring air quality metrics. Please see below for important updates:
  • Afternoon parkour classes on Sunday, August 23 have been cancelled. A credit will be applied to the Cave accounts of registered students.
  • Early morning adult strength and conditioning classes (5:15 AM, 6:15 AM, and 7:15 AM) will continue as scheduled, as trends in our area show that air quality is better in the mornings. Athletes registered for classes in the later morning (9 AM and 10 AM) will be texted if classes are canceled, so please be sure to register online so we know to contact you! Athletes with special health conditions are encouraged to check out current air quality advisories at airnow.gov before they attend class.
  • All other Monday classes and camps are currently scheduled to continue. We are monitoring air quality closely and will be in touch via email if we must cancel.
  • The Cave’s distance learning camp and half-day camp may continue inside even if outside classes are canceled, with modified programming to follow Marin Health & Human Services guidelines. Camp may be canceled if air quality worsens significantly.
We will continue to be in touch as the week progresses. Please log into your account at www.inthecave.com to ensure we have your preferred email address on record.

We greatly appreciate your support as we continue to navigate the dual crises of the pandemic and fire season. The fall and winter will not be easy times for Marin’s small businesses, and we thank you for continuing to stay connected with us while we navigate each new challenge.

Want to get fit from the safety of your home? Don’t forget that we are still offering Zoom classes in parkour and gymnastics, and check out our library of skill work, games, and workouts in all disciplines on our YouTube channel!

Stay safe!

Corona Virus (COVID-19)

Update: September 8th, 2020

Marin county moved into tier 2 in the state’s plan late last week. We were given the green light to open up indoors at 10% capacity starting today, September 8th. We discussed and are planning on moving activity indoors gradually, and only if we feel we can minimize any risk. Unfortunately the county pulled back on the opening of indoor activity late last night. We are waiting further guidance as things develop.

Update: July 13th, 2020
As you may be aware the state is experiencing an increase in the cases of COVID 19. Gavin Newsom announced rollbacks on the reopening process state wide. We have reviewed the changes and at this time the changes do not affect the current operations of The Cave. All camps and outdoor classes are continuing as per state and local guidelines. We understand any confusion around this, even with the close monitoring we are doing, it is difficult to keep up with the frequent changes.

Update: June 27th, 2020
We were planning on getting some of our classes going again on June 29th as per the counties timeline and guidelines. Unfortunately at the last minute the county paused reopening for several categories, which includes indoor gym activity. We are very sorry for the frustration caused for anyone who just enrolled in the classes we were launching. We are evaluating the options and will be announcing our modified plans soon. Thank you for your patience as we keep working through the constantly changing guidelines.

Update: June 11th, 2020

We are back!
Significant changes to the SIP orders are allowing us to get back to some level of activity at The Cave. In order to keep everyone safe there will be strict procedures and protocols so please be patient with our staff and cooperate with the rules we are required to have.

We are starting our camps on June 15th. Be sure to see our Camps page for more details. It is going to be amazing seeing our athletes back in the gym. Our team has put in a lot of work to ensure our camps are following and exceeding Marin County guidelines for camps. All the while, campers will have a great time.

If you are coming to camp be sure to watch our new procedures video with your camper so you are familiar with the new rules.
Gymnastics
Parkour

Outdoor Training!

Strength and Conditioning is moving outdoors! We have put together a huge shade structure outside to allow us to get to work and train together again. It will be good to see people sweating together, apart. Everyone will have their own designated workout zone to ensure proper distancing. Classes start June 15th in the morning. Since we have to limit attendance due to distancing guidelines, please be sure to sign up in the Members Area prior to class to reserve a spot. We are having to adhere to strict rules, so will have to turn athletes away if there is not space available.

Update: Sunday, May 24th, 2020

As we approach resuming in person activity at The Cave, we have been working hard to ensure the safety of all of our students. Our program is going to look drastically different than it did before the Shelter in Place. We are going to need everyone’s cooperation in order to minimize any risk of exposure. The following is a preview of our new procedures:
Cave Reopening Procedures

Also, to help us prepare, please fill out the following survey:
Reopening Survey

Thank you.

Update: Friday, May 22th, 2020

We will be running our annual Memorial Day Murph on Monday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom. This one will go down in the books as the most unusual, widest spread Murph we have ever run.

All other Zoom classes will be cancelled on Monday in observance of the holiday. Happy Memorial Day.

Update: Monday, May 18th, 2020

Important Notice: We have implemented passwords on our Zoom classes. This is to help control access to appropriate students. For students who have been enrolled in classes any time within 2020, the “Live Classes” tab contains formatted links so you can access our Zoom classes directly without entering a password. For students not enrolled in 2020, please contact our office to get set up to access our live content. If you do not have access to the Members Area, click on “Sign Up” to create an account and get the process started.

We are continuing to work with health and safety officials in Marin to get approval for reopening. For our facility, we anticipate this process happening in stages. Please continue to check this page and keep an eye out for emails with updates.

Update: Monday, May 1st, 2020

We hope you are all fairing well and continuing to stay healthy. The Shelter in Place for the Bay Area has formally been extended to May 31st. There have, however, been some relaxations on restrictions. We are investigating what services we can offer in light of the new rules, and planning to gradually increase our offerings over the next month.

The Cave is very interested in hearing how your experience has been with our online classes and content. If there is anything you would like to see us include, please let us know. Our team is ready to help wherever we can.

Staying fit and healthy during this time is very important. Remaining active helps ease some of the psychological pressure that can be brought on by the restrictions, and it has a real impact on infection rates. Studies have shown correlations between physical fitness and improved immune response. To get to the other side of this outbreak, as many of us as possible need to let our immune systems do their job and contribute to developing immunity. Whether it be in one of our classes, or by getting out and hiking, biking, or playing, do your best to keep active. You’ll feel better when you do.

Update: Tuesday, April 14th, 2020

We are now one month into the closure. The Cave team has done an incredible job of moving our services to an online model. We are certainly not experts in this arena and are learning a lot as we go. We are very appreciative of all of your messages of support and encouragement.

Our coaches are continuing to put together great classes and instruction. Be sure to join in on some of our online offerings:

1) Recorded lessons – My Online Lessons
2) Live Zoom classes – Live Classes
3) Zoom class archive – Archive

We miss seeing you all in person. The Live Classes give everyone a way to see each other and interact some, but it isn’t the same as being in the gym. If you haven’t yet taken the opportunity to go through our Online Lessons or Live Classes, be sure to do so. We’d love to see you! We update the pages daily to make sure you have access to the latest content. Stay well.

Update: Wednesday, March 27th, 2020

The Cave team has been working hard to bring The Cave to your home as well as we can. Our coaches have been putting together some great Online Lessons over the past two weeks. We also want to announce that we are starting Live Classes online. These will be regularly scheduled classes that you and your family members can join in on. We will be leading these classes using Zoom.

Current online teachings:

1) Recorded lessons – My Online Lessons
2) Live Zoom classes – Live Classes

We hope you and your families are settling into new and comfortable routines. We have spoken with many of you and the range of struggles from feeling isolated, to being overwhelmed, to suddenly becoming a homeschool family is real. This time is incredibly difficult, but also inspiring. We have seen tremendous outpourings of help and support from so many people in so many ways. We truly appreciate the community that is The Cave. Thank you all for the support. We are going to get through this together.

Update: Wednesday, March 18th, 2020

Our Online Lessons section is now live on our website. Lessons are currently available and we will be adding more every day, including lessons for CrossFit, Gymnastics, Parkour, and Family Fitness ideas. Online Lessons can be found in the Members Area.

We hope you and your families are well. The community we have makes us all stronger. We are all here to help one another as needed. We have received so many messages of support. Thank you, it really means so much to us.

Update: Monday, March 16th, 2020

With the Shelter in Place order, The Cave will be closed for the foreseeable future. There will be more information here coming soon. The Cave team is currently working on how we can be of value to the community going forward.

We appreciate you all, and hope you and your families are well. This is the time to simply love each other, help where you can, and don’t hesitate to ask for help if in need.

Update Sunday, March 15th, 2020

All classes at The Cave are closed on Monday 3/16. This will remain the case while we evaluate the situation and determine next steps.

Because this situation is complex and evolving rapidly, we have not determined when we will reopen. We know there will be many questions about memberships. Your patience is appreciated while we continue to work on a plan. We will be sure to let you know any updates via email and on this page.

Update Saturday, March 14th, 2020

All classes and Open Gym at The Cave are closed on Sunday 3/15, and possibly longer.

This evening, according to the MHHS, two cases of community spread COVID-19 were confirmed in Marin County. Because of this recent news, we have decided to change our hours. This decision does not come easily. We know many of you will be disappointed, but hope for your understanding.

During this time, with many factors affecting people’s lives and livelihoods, we kindly ask that you temper your responses. There isn’t a perfect solution, as many are being forced into an impossible balance between limiting social interaction and paying their bills.

We are exploring options as to what we can provide for physical activity. Exercise and interacting with others have been proven to have significant health benefits, including improved immune response. For now, we recommend spending some time outdoors while being sure to follow the social distancing guidelines.

Meantime, please check this page tomorrow as we will be updating our operation hours on an ongoing basis. Stay safe.

Update Friday, March 13th, 2020

The Cave takes the safety and well-being of its athletes, employees, and community very seriously. In light of the ongoing Coronavirus developments, we are committed as ever to keeping everyone’s health a top priority.

We are monitoring the situation with COVID-19 very closely and following the guidelines provided by the CDC and Marin HHS. As the situation is very fluid, our status could change in a very short time. Please keep checking this page for any updated information.

What we’re doing at The Cave:

  • Our day to day cleaning procedures are already very comprehensive, but given the current situation, we are increasing our processes. Staff members are now cleaning and sanitizing frequently touched surfaces, mats, and equipment multiple times a day.
  • Alcohol-based hand sanitizer is available in all departments of The Cave.
  • Sanitizing wipes are available to use on equipment before and after contact.
  • Coaches and staff have been directed to wash/sanitize their hands between all classes, repeatedly throughout the day, and to stay home if they feel ill.
  • We are continuing to follow updates and protocol suggested by the CDC, Department of Public Health, and other credible agencies to best ensure your safety.

What you can do to help:

  • Please wash your hands using warm, soapy water, and dry them well. Take your kids to wash their hands frequently, especially when you first arrive at the gym and before leaving.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue. Use sanitizer and sanitizing wipes often. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose with unwashed hands.
  • If you or your kids are symptomatic of an illness, from the common cold to the flu, please refrain from coming into the gym.

Labor Day Closure

Hi there Cave Community,

Please note that The Cave will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. All regularly scheduled classes and camps are cancelled that day, except Adult Strength & Conditioning classes at 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. We will be open for classes and camps as usual on Saturday (9/5), Sunday (9/6), and Tuesday (9/8).

Click the button below to reserve your spot!

Happy Labor Day!

The Cave’s Response to Comments From Glassman

Our world is in a major state of change. The pandemic coupled with the current protests against systemic racism have forced our country to look deeply at itself and hopefully change for the better. As a company we generally do not issue statements on current political and social hot topics. I do not believe I should speak for our community and/or our staff as a whole. I fully support our staff in their efforts when taking a stand on an issue, and as a company have been able to provide time off and other resources for these efforts.

Given recent comments and responses from Greg Glassman, the founder of CrossFit, I felt I needed to speak up. His comments are simply divisive, at a time when unity and common purpose are sorely needed. The Cave supports diversity of all kinds. One of the great principles of CrossFit is that the methodology is inherently inclusive. The principles can be followed by anyone, anywhere. We do not stand for anyone being judged based on anything other than their character and their actions. I am truly sorry if anyone has been hurt by Glassman’s comments. Know that I do not condone, or support his views. Greg has apologized for these comments, but we are still continuing to review our affiliation with CrossFit.

I do not want to make a knee-jerk decision without giving our staff and community time to digest and weigh in on this issue. We are currently debating our CrossFit affiliate status. If we should choose to de-affiliate it will not affect our community or program in any way. We would simply be dropping the CrossFit name from any of our materials.  In the past, there may be some events that we have participated in that we choose to skip, but our daily program will be unaffected. Being one of the early affiliates worldwide it saddens me that we may be at the end of our affiliation. We affiliated ourselves with CrossFit because the mission of true health and fitness was being born out by the methodologies. Our efforts in this are not affected by one man’s ignorant and hurtful comments.

Roger
