2025 Men’s State Championships
Our men’s team headed to San Mateo to compete at state championships. Every member of our team qualified.
Our participation started with a level 4 session on Friday morning. Our lone level 4 Maxwell D. started off floor strong with his best performance of the season scoring 8.8. Second event was pommel horse which has been a strong event for Maxwell all season. Unfortunately he fell of near the end of his routine. After working through the disappointment of this fall he performed well on his remaining events. Notable finishes was 3rd place on high bar with an 8.6, and 9th all around.
Our second session was with our level 7s. We started the meet on rings. Aiden Z. has been working on his double back dismount in practice the last few weeks. Given that we were confident in his qualifying to regional championships we decided to include the dismount in his routine so he could have some experience competing the dismount before regionals. Unfortunately he did fall on the dismount, but it was worth the fall risk for the experience. The rest of our level 7s hit solid routines with Nicco B. scoring 11.2 for a 3rd place finish. Our second event was vault which started rough with both Aiden Z. and Teo C. touching their hands to the ground on the landing. Any hand contact with the floor regardless of how light is considered a fall and receives a full point deduction. Even with the fall Teo C. scored a 10.5 for 4th place on vault due to the difficulty and quality of his vault. Other event finishes of note were Teo C. receiving an 11.4 for 4th place on parrallel bars, and Nicco B. receiving a 10.9 for 3rd place on high bar. While this wasn’t our level 7s strongest meet our team was ranked 3rd in the state. Achieving the podium at state championships is a fantastic achievement.
We finished the meet with our two level 3 athletes Senai H. and Jackson P. As state championships is the last step for level 3 athletes this was the final meet of the season for these athletes. Both athletes performed well. Jacson hit a personal best on rings at 7.8. Senai hit personal bests on several events. Notably vault with a 9.1 for 7th place, and finishing with a 48.6 all around which was two full points higher than his previous best.
We are proud of our athletes and our level 3 athletes are now moving on to train for their next season, while the level 4 and level 7 athletes continue their preparation for regional championships.
